Easter Sunday, special day

things I want to remember about today:

We went to Coolidge Park for a huge easter egg hunt and outdoor service. The kids loved it and so did vitaliy and I. The gospel was presented clearly several times, and the music was great.

Afterwards After the events were over, we stayed a few hours longer. Vitaliy went kayaking in the river and I stayed with the kids at the water fountains where they played.

I was glad that, while I was getting tired, I didn’t get into a bad attitude. Vitaliy came back and took the kids to the field to fly a kite.

We came home. Soon we were back out in the yard, V with his hammock up and I in the lawn chair. We did our own egg hunt in the yard. The kids enjoyed that, and Vika did a neat job later doing little egg hunts for Andre.

I was also glad I didn’t go out, but I was able to stay and be “with” my family in every way. And around 8pm, I corralled them, we cleaned up some, and I gave the girls massage with peppermint essential oil in olive oil—they loved that and want to do it more. I had this idea from reading Attached at the Heart about the importance of touch, and I’m trying to see ways I can incorporate healthy touching into life. This was a hit.

Then I read 3 chapters of our latest story. And Skyla fell asleep; Vika came downstairs and fell asleep in her room.

I felt today like I am finally, after studying and reading about parenting for about 5 years now, being in Parent University—I’m starting to make read progress and do a better, more intentional job. Like I am investing more of my self into parenting now. Feeling like I’m doing a good though imperfect job. Giving more and more of my creative, emotional self into this.

A lady at the egg hunt witnessed to Skyla while painting her face. And Skyla was clear that she didn’t want to pray and accept Christ. … Praying for her.

some special memories

Some things I want to remember from today (and won’t if I don’t write them down somewhere):

We had a lovely group time homeschooling today. We do Bible, history (geography), literature, and science together– me, Skyla and Vika. Usually they are dying to get it over with.

Today was nice—I had the readings all set out, and we moved the coffee table to the kitchen right under the huge windows so it was very light. And I made them tea with milk and fresh strawberries. They loved this combo of happiness, so we had a really enjoyable time doing all our group reading/work together!

Separately, they each do handwriting, grammar, and math. I love how they wake up and do this right away. They’re usually done with their own work by the time I’m ready to get out of bed!

The other thing I want to remember is Skyla praying today. First, I’m so thankful for our church here in the U.S. Before we came back, I’d been praying for months that the girls would have a special time spiritually here. And it’s been neat seeing them get involved with the children’s leader at church, S.S., AWANA, etc.

Skyla prayed today that each of them would believe in God….And for Skyla, that was meaningful to me that she would say that out loud…. And their mommy keeps praying that all her children will all be saved to the uttermost.

you really don’t have to dream big

American culture says a lot about “dreaming big.”

Can someone just say: You don’t have to dream big … ?

It’s OK not to dream big. It’s OK to work on being content with the ordinary faithfulness needed with every day. That’s a huge job.

Shew.

Maybe there is a time for dreaming big. and there is a time for big dreams to mean being faithful at ordinary life.

Oh yes, and me with my long-time friend Rachel, who is also headed to Ukraine as a missionary (at Panera, of course):

we all enjoy the non-bookish things most

So they did math, handwriting, grammar, science, history …

Then I turn on this neat-o disk where a boy narrates the Peter and the Wolf orchestration. It’s great! So the girls danced to it some:
